Golden Rule

"Make a point to follow the Golden Rule everyday.
Let the ego go once in a while.
Don't take yourself so seriously
or look to be offended by the actions of others.
Instead, seek out way to love, respect and
show consideration to those who come your way.
You will soon see that living by the Golden Rule
has one distinct end result - inner peace.
And that is as golden as it gets!"

Jim Ryan, "Simple Happiness" pg.119

The Golden Rule of "treat others as you want them to treat you," is a moral principal in many of the major religions of the world. I am thankful that there are principles and philosophies that are based on this concept. Pelicans are one of the birds I love to observe on the Oregon Coast. Capturing the view of the Pelicans and the Commorants sharing the rock ledges, after a long day of fishing on the Oregon Coast, I never see the Pelicans fighting with each other or with other birds. They share the roost at Gregory Point and they share their food with the seagulls. The Pelican's behavior exemplifies an example of the Golden Rule occuring in the animal kingdom.

What wise words. Our world, our nation, would be a lot better place if people would not “look to be offended by the actions of others.” I’ve worked on that in my own life. Letting other people offend me is only giving away my own power and certainly not cultivating peace.

I love pelicans! I grew up in St. Petersburg, Florida, and those birds were a fixture in my childhood because we were by the water a lot. Such a great picture and an inspiring quote. Thanks, Pati.
