Contingency Fund = Peace of Mind
"A Contingency Fund by any other name is an emergency stash, rainy day fund or a nest egg. Whatever you call it, if you have money set aside in a private place, you know something about peace of mind. And if you don’t have such a thing you live on the edge, teetering somewhere between wondering how you’ll make it to the next payday and relying on a credit-card rescue."

Everyday cheapskate - The Joy of a Contingency Fund

The black hole in this driftwood log photo symbolizes the proverbial black hole of consumerism. In our present day society it's easy to continue to buy beyond our needs. I am thankful that my husband and I have had a Contingency Fund in our lives. It has given me peace of mind throughout the years of raising three children. I want to continue to achieve that goal even as we have reached the retirement years. The idea of living within your means is something that Mary Hunt advocates. Actually Mary advocates "living below your means." Check out an archive of her site at: http://www.cheapskatemonthly.com/ed_cheapskate.asp

Oh yes...the nest egg. I'm so glad that Erik and I share this as a value. It does give us peace of mind about our future ... that and the GET college fund set up for Duncan. These take away a lot of the worries about where we'll be down the road!
I really needed to read this entry today. I need to evaluate, and plan ahead a bit better than I am. Thank you Pati. ¥
