"What a man can be, he must be."

"A musician must make music,
an artist must paint,
a poet must write,
if he is to be ultimately at peace with himself.
What a man can be, he must be."

Abraham Maslow

Abraham Maslow is sometimes called the "Father of Modern Management." He believed that we all need "self-actualization."
Self-actualization - The instinctual need of humans to make the most of their abilities and strive to be the best they can."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maslow's_hierarchy_of_needs.
There a many more definitions of self-actualization on the Internet.
I liked this definition. It describes what I hope and pray for all our children and grandchildren. I am thankful that all of our children are busy pursuing careers and enjoying their lives and families.

Photo: Jessica playing golf at our McDougall Family Reunion 6/9/07. This photo shows the fun Jessica is having with clothes and Fashion. She is pursuing so many ideas in her life. Fashion is just one of the abilities, being an editor and a personal assistant for Jeffrey also keeps her very busy. As a Mother I want Jessica to be happy, to experience life-long learning, and "be the best she can be."

Good morning, Pati. I love that quote! You find good ones. So relates to what I've been pursuing in life lately. Meaning. Been reading a lot about the subject from Eric Maisel. Understanding how important it is to fulfill the purpose that I define for myself, what has meaning for me.

Perhaps I'll blog on that topic myself!

Hope you are well.
