"Never, for the sake of peace and quiet
deny your own experience or convictions."

This is a powerful quote which I believe means we have to stand up for what we believe is right. As people of this planet earth we live on, we need to stand up for our beliefs, and for our freedom to say what we believe.

As one of my very good friends used to tell me "the storms of life they come." Will you stand up for your convictions, your beliefs, your values when your "storms" come?

I also enjoy being back with you Patti enjoying your thoughtful quotes and wondering about how we can really make a difference standing up for what's right. I've had that issue with a student teacher who will pass and shouldn't but there's nothing I can do about it and I did try. The best I can do, but someone is sneaking through. Ugh, it's a tough place to be.

It takes a great spirit to stand up in a storm and that is something I'm trying to cultivate in Duncan. Yet, it's so tricky. There's a fine line between "stand up for" and "fight" for your beliefs. Standing up for them is far more peaceful and far more difficult.

Hi Mom,

I'm so happy to see another post! I click on your blog every day -- and although I loved the 'i love peace' pin, I was getting tired of it!

This post is perfect for this time in your life.

I love you!

What I love about visiting your blog is that you allow us to question our own beliefs. I hope I WOULD stand up for my beliefs, when necessary, and that that is the message I send to my students. We just talked about this today, as we listened to a song about not needing material things but instead, the world needs people to make a difference in the lives of others. The song (by the Goo Goo Dolls) seemed to strike a chord with them.

So happy to see you posting again, Pati, and I love the quote for today. It reminds me to not be afraid to speak up when truth needs to be told.
Thank you.

I haven't been able to check in for a while, Pati ... and I see that you were on a bit of a hiatus, too. It's nice to come back and read this quote and your post.

I'm not always up to facing the storms of my life. I was actually thinking about this today when I rode the bus past some neighborhood-destroying construction that people fought hard to prevent but which is going ahead anyway. I thought how against the development I was but then wondered if I'd done as much as I could have to fight it. I signed all the petitions, I made phone calls, I voted for people who said they would fight it ... but was that enough, was there more I could have done? I don't know.
