The Day we Met - March 11, 1970

38 years. Today is the anniversay of the first day we met 38 years ago - March 11, 1970 - I have a vivid memory of the first day we saw each other at the Beaver Hut in Corvallis, Oregon. We were both attending Oregon State University. You were studying Forestry and I was in Clothing and Textiles. It was love at first sight! We started dating, forsaking all others and married within six months.

That first night we met we drove to Avery Park. This train was one of the fixtures at the park. We kissed by the train. Our first kiss. Amazing how we could never have imagined our future together; that our daughter, Ali, and her son, Simon, would be climbing on the same train 37 years later, the summer of 2007.

I am thankful for 38 years of marriage. The art of marriage is a commitment to love and cherish. It doesn't mean that marriage is blissful or peaceful throughout all the years. It is hard work to be married; raise a family of three children and work at a profession. When first meeting a person there is no way to see into the future. I pray that our lives together will continue on the path of a conscious commitment to love and cherish each other.

Pati,
My husband graduated with a degree in Forestry and my degree was Interior Design. I also took several textiles and fabric design classes. We married in 1976!

I just realized that you are Ali Edwards mother. I have long admired her work in the scrapbooking world and after reading your blog these past days I see where Ali gets her charm!
