Peaceful Death - Kubler-Ross
"Watching a peaceful death
of a human being
reminds us of a falling star;
one of a million lights
in a vast sky
that flares up
for a brief moment
only to disappear
into the endless night
forever."
Elisabeth Kubler-Ross
It is difficult for me to relate to this quote by Elisabeth Kubler-Ross today. At this time I am a little too close to the dying process to be able to think positively about "flaring up for a brief moment only to disappear into the endless night forever." My Mother is very close to death and is unable to speak. If I can look at this quote as a metaphor for a release from her earthly body, flaring up into the sky like a star, that sounds nice. The idea of "disappearing into the endless night forever," fills me with sadness. Unless -- if I can look at the concept as disappearing from our earthly sight, into the heavenly sphere and joining my Father, and those that have gone before us, -- that thought can fill me with peace; that there will be an afterlife for my beautiful Mother, who has been one of my best friends in life.

Difficult as it is, you are finding a way for your mother to have a path to afterlife. I'm sorry for your sadness. You are lucky to have such a good friend in her. Hold on to that.
It's so difficult to say goodbye to our mother...even when we believe that there is love and wonder ahead for her. It's indredibly sad to say goodbye. My mom also lost her 'voice' at the end, which was difficult to watch. It's been three years now and I still miss mom but often feel her close to me.
The phrase "to disapear into an endless night forever" is a sad one and doesn't describle my feelings on death...I see it more as travelling to another land where we can't see each other but we're still very much aware of each other and still feel connected. That's how it's been for me.
Sending thoughts of comfort and support to you and your mom at this time. How wonderful for your mother to have you there with her as she prepares for her journey. ((hugs)).
I heard disappearing into the "endless night forever" and felt comforted rather than sad ... it felt as if she would then surround you always, be a part of you forever.
I am glad that you live close enough and are close enough to your mother that you're able to spend this time with her.
I see your Mom, released from the constraints of Alzheimers, racing to the heavens to be with your father. I see the smiles of their love and their pride in their children. Love ya, Al
Praying for your peace, Pati.

I love you, Mom.
And I believe that in her brief moment of passing to the next life, Grandma was proud and happy to have you as her daughter. You have been such a wonderful friend to her. And I'm so blessed to have that same feeling about you as my mother.
I pray that you will find PEACE in the coming weeks (and far into the future) knowing that Grandma is on a journey to revisit her love.
HUGS again Pati. I just know your mom will smile on you again with clarity and peace. And, your love and hers will connect you two forever.
Take care, my friend!
