"Whoever values peace of mind
and the health of the soul
will live the best of all possible lives."

I have memories of Amaryllis plants at my Grandmother Dory's house. My memories are not of the beautiful blooms. The visions I remember were the long, falling over, leaves after the blooms had died. I could not understand why my beautiful Grandmother would have that style of houseplant. After being married to Al for 37 years, we have had hundreds of beautiful Amaryllis plants. I now understand the cycle of the Amaryllis, as the bloom dies, the leaves absorb the light to help the bulb grow and be able to bloom again after a period of dormancy. Al has perfected the ability to bring the Amaryllis bulbs back to life year after year.
The care of the Amaryllis bulb is similar to some of the things we need to do for the "health of our souls:" light, food, water, prunning, and dormant periods to allow our souls to grow so we can achieve "peace of mind." After the care of the soul, we can "bloom where we are planted."
