Peaceful Dove of Kauai

"The Zebra Dove Geopelia striata, also known as Barred Ground Dove, is a bird of the dove family Columbidae, native to South-east Asia. It is closely related to the Peaceful Dove of Australia and New Guinea and the Barred Dove of eastern Indonesia. These two were classified as subspecies of the Zebra Dove until recently and the names Peaceful Dove and Barred Dove were often applied to the whole species."

"Peaceful Dove" is such a appropriate name for the Zebra Doves here on the Garden Island of Kauai. The Doves love to sing in soft, cooing sounds and are plentiful here in the courtyard of the Mokihana. I have been having fun feeding them crumbs of potato chips and bread. Also many memories of former years with the children feeding the doves on the railings of the apartments on the upper floors are coming into my thoughts. Ali, John and Jessica loved the doves calm, unfearful manner when they would land on the railings to eat the crumbs of food.
