"Being at Peace with your own company."

"When was the last time you were alone -
I mean really alone - and in silence
without radio, video, or tape,
listening to the silence of your heart,
being at peace with your own company?"

I am thankful for opportunities to experience silence without the radio, TV or any noise. I like to read, pray and meditate in silence. Sometimes I have to wear ear plugs in order to experience the silence. When I was growing up my family didn't watch TV or listen to the radio very often. If we watched TV my sister and I had to have some project we worked on such as ironing or sewing. That example left me with the habit of wanting to use my hands as I watch TV or listen to the radio. Working on cross stitch projects is my choice of creativity while watching TV. Now that we have high speed Internet, I also enjoy working on computer projects as Al and I watch TV.

Spending time in Kauai offers me the blessing of spending time in silence during the early morning sunrises. No matter where I am I enjoy the early morning silence thankful to be at peace with my own company.

I love the image you've created in being alone with the morning sun, especially in a place like Hawaii. I can only imagine how breathtaking that must be.

The early morning is the best! I, too, love watching the sunrise (though, I haven't done it in awhile). Also, I am really working to enjoy the silence...to make room for it every day. Silence is so relaxing!

Take care and have a peaceful day!

Love this image. I look forward all year to our family's vacation of solitude in Door County, Wisconsin. There is so much peace there and I steep myself in it for two weeks every year. The afternoons are filled with the screaming laughter of my children and grandchildren, but I join you in desiring the early morning peace.
Now, if I could just learn to bring this same sense into my daily life.
