"You can choose to make a separate peace....
at the very simplest level,
you find a place to retreat.
You arrange for a refuge
where you can rest, and be renewed
before returning to the fray.
Your corner may be as simple
as a comfortable chair."
Thomas Kinkade
We have the view of lots of Seagulls that love to sit on this stump of our neighbor on Lighthouse Beach. It is a place of refuge, a retreat for them. Our neighbor is the kind of person who feeds all the birds and they flock to her place many times a day. There is almost always a gull on this stump and more waiting for their chance to rest awhile and have a treat at Irene's.

My grandmother was just like Irene! We'd always take a big bag a bread to the park so she could feed the birds.
